lønstrup to starboard, painting on canvas 100x140cm
about the painting:
once a year, if time permits, we rent a summer house in northern Jutland, specifically Lønstrup, where we are only a few meters from the North Sea.
as an artist, for years I have stood and looked at the western sea and thought, how do I share my experience with others, what is the use of telling about the mountains of the world, when the receiver's only reference is the flat land. I don't mean a documentary of what I see, but the feeling, the experience, the story, the drama and the feeling of the wind in the face.
as a multi-artist, with the best camera I could buy, I have taken hundreds of pictures of the sea, but still without achieving the desired result. it was as if the pictures lost their magic on the way back to my home in South Funen.
in 2019, I then decided that the only way out was the painting, and a year and a half later, "lønstrup to starboard" was finished.
